Keeping Baby Safe Easily

When you have the option of
                                  keeping baby safe

                                       Why Not?

Somewhere in our history the smell of a baby became associated with commercial products.  The most famous of these is Johnson & Johnson’s Baby Powder which is currently losing legal battles for causing ovarian cancer, yet, the imprint of that smell remains associated with baby.

With a new baby coming into the family, I did a bit of research.  I used a site called Skin Deep by EWG.  They rate cosmetics and personal care products.  You can look up most ingredients and thousands of items are listed by product.  The scale they use is 1-10 with 5 being moderately harmful.   For me 5 is too much for a baby, or for me.  Why not go as low as possible and keep away from mineral oil, other petroleum products and hormone disruptors?

In just researching shampoo products briefly here is what I found:

Burt’s Bees score of 3 and 4.  The company was sold to Clorox, so beware.

Aveeno is 3 and 4 for most baby products.

Nature’s Baby is 3.

Paul Mitchell for Baby is 4.

Yes to Baby Carrots is 4.

Johnson and Johnson No More Tears comes up a 5.  I also researched their Cotton Touch by ingredients and the first few are 4 and 5.

Desitin registers a 5, not because of the zinc oxide (which registers 2-3), but because of the added ingredients.

In general, if it is made by Corporate America…worry.  That mean all that is familiar, all that is common and all that have coupons are suspect of using inexpensive, toxic ingredients.

In just a few minutes, I made 3 products that are easy to make and safe.
There are endless recipes on line so you can tailor them to your likes.

Recipes:

Diaper Cream
A combination of coconut oil and beeswax with essential oil.  You could
also combine it with castor oil which is antibacterial like coconut oil, or shea butter if you want a moisturizer.

Baby Powder
Combine organic arrowroot with lavender oil.   You can also use
corn starch, but keep it GMO-free.

Shampoo/Wash
1 cup water

1/4 cup Dr. Bronner’s Castile Soap

1 Tablespoon olive oil

Add vitamin E and essential oil fragrance if you like.

Vein Remedy

This  was a random internet find that happens to work.  It is called Horse Chestnut Cream and this brand is Planetary.  The cost was about $20 US.  Although it has many uses that include supporting hemorrhoids, arthritis, sprains, eczema and joint pain, it is also know for healing veins.

Horse Chestnut Cream is used in Europe as an effective and sanctioned remedy for veins with mild to moderate blood flow disorders and varicose veins.  It is said to support vessel wall functioning and offers relief for pain and swelling.

This vein was approximately 8" long and measured about 1/2" in height.  In 3-4 days of using Horse Chestnut cream on it, there were definite signs of improvement.  I cannot speak to whether this is a permanent improvement or not, as it has only been a few weeks, but the difference is noticeable.  Some days it disappears completely.

I also used the Horse Chestnut cream on areas of small blood vessels that show as purple patches.  These improved within days.

PTSD and Lead Shot

There was a recent study reported that is attempting to link PTSD in war situations to genetics.  Of course anything is possible, but I had to think this fringes on the ridiculous.  War is a horrifying experience on so many levels that genetics seems to be the last of the possibilities.

A completely overlooked area of possibility is the influence of lead from weapon use.  Lead is known to cause reactions that are very similar to PTSD with or without the experience of war.  In fact, a known side effect of lead contamination is rage which can manifest in many ways that resemble PTSD.

If you consider that the military still uses mercury in dentistry, still feeds soldiers food contaminated with GMO poisons and pesticides and gives little support in the area of mental health, it seems reasonable that the combination of these elements would offer symptoms that strongly mimic what is known as PTSD.

An interesting and practical study would be to test soldiers with PTSD for mercury and lead levels.   It seems a very basic first step.

Even though the risks can be categorized as moderate, anything absorbed by the lungs must be detoxed if the body cannot use it, making extra work for your systems.  Considering that this level 5 danger is offered as 45 days of continous use, the burden to the body is substantial.  Pure lavender essential oil is a #1.
