As Vermont's GMO laws take shape for July 1, 2016, demanding the labelling of genetically modified foods, we are starting to see food manufacturers panic. Advertising with meaningless words and phrases are trying to convince you that some of the worst products are now healthy.
DON'T TRUST. READ EVERY LABEL!
I can't Believe it's not Butter has a new image. They are now 100% real which means nothing. Tires are also 100% real. The ads say, "We believe in simpler spreads because food should enhance life, not complicate it." They now claim, "100% taste" and "0% artificial flavors." Here is the curious issue. I've been on two of the manufacturer's sites for 30 minutes and cannot find the ingredients listed among these new claims of being real and simple.
Phases like "gluten-free" and "GMO free" are coming up everywhere. Here is what this butter-like, GMO Free, spread says about their use of GMO ingredients. "We source ingredients that are not genetically modified. However, in the field-to-tub journey of making our buttery spread there is some contact with genetically modified vegetable oils, resulting in a small amount in this product." This disclaimer was noted with a small asterisk at the bottom of a page.
People who care about GMO contamination care about all of it. They don't want remnants of poison or altered genes in any amount in their food. They are not looking for a small asterisk at the bottom of a page to atone for the lie. Shun these less than honest manufacturers and support those who have you as a priority.
From a personal point of view, switch to butter from grass-fed cows or raw sources that contain real nutritional value. There is no better than natural that has not been altered.
