"all natural."
The latest change to
natural and organic that again leave
the consumer
wondering what to do.
What’s going on here is that someone has decided that they know better than the public and yet again, we are having our food sources altered to meet the needs of what some call progress. Or maybe it is called greed?
The product is introduced as Apeel and is being used on fruits and vegetables. Apeel is made from a source called Edipeel. Here is what the manufacturer states:
“Our product, Edipeel, is a thin, edible postharvest coating made from plant-derived materials, designed to be consumed, that meets the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) requirements for qualifications as Generally Recognized as Safe (GRAS) in the United States.”
What most Americans now know is that trust in the FDA is foolishness. The FDA is the same agency that allows thousands of cancer causing agents, heavy metals and poisons into your daily life. These items are also GRAS, Generally Regarded as Safe, yet we know that a daily dose of toxic chemicals overloads the burden on the body and is causing endless conditions, cancers and disease.
“Generally Regarded as Safe” is not good enough anymore. BPA in plastics and its replacement BPS were also GRAS. Lead is your lipstick, hair dyes, dinner plates and food are also GRAS. Mercury in dentistry has been regarded as safe until public awareness forced the FDA to say, just last year, that it might not be a good idea to store mercury in your mouth if you are a child or pregnant woman.
It’s interesting to note that the FDA’s own documents claim that Apeel production uses toxic heavy metals like cadmium, mercury and lead to process ingredients. Solvents like ethyl acetate and heptane are also mentioned.
Is it good or bad? According to the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation who funded the project, it is good. According to the FDA, it’s GRAS. GRAS to me is code for “let’s wait and see.” My vote is...we don't mess with nature.
